Why we do the Ad Campaign?
On January 22, 1973, in its Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton decisions, the U.S. Supreme Court took away the right to life of unborn children. Instead of protecting life, the Court made it the role of government to protect killing. Over 63 million American babies have been killed by being surgically ripped from the safety and warmth of their mothers’ wombs. Millions more have been killed by so-called “contraceptives” including the birth control pill, morning after pill, patches, implants, and injections — all of which can cause very early abortions.
On June 24, 2022, in its Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Association ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. The Court wrote:
“Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
Since June of 2022, thousands of preborn children’s lives have been saved as many states have prohibited all or most abortions.
In Ohio, several pro-abortion groups have proposed to amend the Ohio constitution by ballot initiative in order to enshrine abortion until birth, with no protections for preborn children, with parents having no say in their underage daughters’ abortions, and with taxpayers forced to pay for abortions.
To help bring about a culture of life and love — where every life is protected — Lorain County Right to Life will again conduct an Ad and Billboard Campaign through local churches and other organizations, asking signees to publicly proclaim their Pro-Life stand.
It is incumbent upon all of us to pray and to work for the day when EVERY abortion is illegal, EVERY abortion is unthinkable, and when the sanctity and dignity of EVERY human life is protected and respected.
What is the Ad Campaign?
For many years, our “Signature Ad” Campaign collected names and donations from Ad sponsors, and the names were printed along with educational material in area newspapers. A number of years ago, we started purchasing same-themed billboards, and in recent years, we added online advertising to the Campaign.
The print ads with sponsor names consumed over half the Campaign budget, and most of the cost was to accommodate printing the many names of our supporters. Those print ads, which ran for only one day, were reaching a steadily decreasing number of newspaper subscribers.
Beginning with our January 2021 Campaign, we purchased newspaper ads with larger graphics and no names. This allowed us more flexibility in the print ad size, and enabled us to increase online advertising (newspaper websites, Facebook and other social media, etc.). Online ads can reach a larger, younger audience than newspaper (print) ads and can run for a week or more. We continued to present our message on full-color Pro-Life billboards throughout Lorain County. The billboards are often left up for many weeks and reach a broad audience.
Our goal was and is to streamline our advertising to get the most impact from our sponsors’ donations.
For our 2023 Campaign, we plan to again purchase billboards and online advertising, and to purchase print ads (graphics only) to be published in Lorain County newspapers on or about June 24, 2023 — the anniversary of the 2022 Supreme Court Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v Wade and returned the authority to regulate or prohibit abortion “to the people and their elected representatives.”
An online version of the print ad (graphics and names) will appear on our website (click here to see the 2021 online ad). Although we won’t be printing the sponsors’ names in the newspapers, those names will still be prominently displayed on our website in order to acknowledge the extreme importance of our sponsors. All print and online ads will have a link to the sponsor names on our website.
Please join us in standing for the protection of all human life.
Sponsor names and donations are critical for the Ad Campaign to succeed!
You can use the links below to download everything you need to gather signatures and donations within your church, workplace, family, and other organizations. The deadline for returns of names and donations is Friday, May 19, 2023; and should be sent to LORAIN COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE, P.O. BOX 207, ELYRIA, OH 44036-0207.
The sign-up process for the Campaign will be similar to past years. Starting in 2021 when many churches and organizations were not meeting as they normally would, we introduced additional materials and suggestions on how to conduct the Campaign on-line or by mail. Please see below for details.

Lorain County Right to Life was chartered in 1977 to counteract the evil that had been initiated by the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions in January of 1973 that forced every state in the U.S. to decriminalize abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Since that time, Lorain County Right to Life has been a steadfast proponent of the protection of all human life from conception to natural death. Join us in defending life!
